Nancy M. (Roth) Puchbauer

November 8, 1965 — April 14, 2020

Jackson, Missouri

Nancy Roth Puchbauer, 54, of Jackson, met her Lord and Savior, on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at her home.

She was born Nov. 8, 1965, in Cape Girardeau, to Norman G. and Jeanette Kimbel Roth. She was a 1983 graduate of Perryville High School and earned an associate degree in business from Metro Business College.

Nancy and Matt Puchbauer were married July 18, 1987, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. One son, Andrew, was born to their union.

After their marriage, the family resided in Sikeston and Malden, Missouri, where Nancy worked as a receptionist and legal secretary. When they returned to Jackson and established their Simmental herd, they looked to Nancy as the coordinator and chief herdsman of the cattle operation. She was diligent in tending to her responsibilites and dutifully walked a “worn path” all around the farm, always in the company of her two Austrailian Shepherds, Sis and Champ. A few of Nancy’s responsibilites include record keeping, purchasing feed, medical supplies and vaccinations, and breaking cattle to show.

For many years, Nancy served on the 4H-FFA Youth Prospect Committee and during Andrew’s youth, the family often traveled to cattle shows throughout the Midwest, and when time allowed, she would occasionally break cattle for others.

Loving survivors include her husband of 32 years, Matt Puchbauer of Jackson; her son, Andrew of Jackson and his girlfriend, Kelly Hahs of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Paul (Carla) Roth of Frohna, Missouri and Daniel (Sandy) Roth of Farrar, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

Matt’s family includes his mother, LaVerne (the late Floyd) Puchbauer of Jackson; three siblings, Beverly (Dennis) Hemmann of Oak Ridge, Kent (Jean) Puchbauer and Mark (Gaye) Puchbauer of Jackson; a brother-in-law, David (the late Holly) Thomas of Oak Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Karen Hicks; her father-in-law; and a sister-in-law.

During this time when we are advised to “shelter in place,” the family is endeavoring to keep everyone safe by remembering Nancy in the following unconventional manners:

First, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., on Friday a guest registry will be available to sign outside the east doors of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. If weather becomes inclement, the registry will be moved inside to the lobby and the number of guests will be restricted to stay within the current 10-person limit. Guests are asked to please use their own pen or pencil. Memorial contributions will also be received in this area.

Second, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., on Saturday the family will be available beneath the west portico of the funeral home to greet friends in their cars. Due to health concerns, this event involves no personal contact. Drivers are asked to simply write their family name in bold print on a sizeable piece of paper and tape it on the rear driver’s side window.

Please approach the building in the westbound lane of West Independence and turn into the east entrance of the funeral home. Drivers should go all the way around the back of the building to approach the family, who will be standing beneath the west portico. In hopes of eliminating traffic hazards, guests are advised to exit the parking lot by making a right turn into the westbound lane of the highway.

The family will honor Nancy with a private graveside service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. The Rev. Bryan Wendling will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorial contributions to New McKendree United Methodist Church or Feed My Starving Children.
