Nelda Ruth (Hahn) Morton Hinton, 88, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at her home.
Born September 27, 1937, in Millersville, to Roy M. and Bernice Jenkins Hahn, Nelda had seven siblings. She was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School.
Nelda married Robert Clark Morton, and one son, Mark, was born to their union. Robert passed away July 8, 1971.
Nelda later married Benny Ray Hinton. He passed away April 10, 2014.
Nelda was a longtime member of New McKendree Methodist Church in Jackson. She was a clerk in the office of the Cape County Public Defender. In earlier years, she worked at state and county offices and the hosiery mill in Jackson.
Loving survivors include her son, Mark Morton of St. Louis City; sisters, Delano “Lanie” Turner of Jackson and Dean Blattel of Greenville, Missouri; several nieces and nephews.
Survivors of the Morton family include Robert’s nephew, Terry (Sharyn) Strack of Jackson; and Velda Strack, wife of the late Mike Strack, and their families.
The surviving Hinton family includes Benny’s sons, Anthony “Tony” and Scott Hinton; four grandchildren and their families; siblings, Henry (Jeannie) Hinton of Jackson, Terry Hinton of Cape Girardeau, Mike (Mary Lou) Hinton of Sikeston, Marsha Hinton of Cape Girardeau, Nancy Irvin of Reno, Nevada, and several nieces and nephews. Two siblings predeceased Benny, Gerald (Ann) Hinton and Carolyn Klueppel.
Nelda was preceded in death by her spouses; five siblings: Delmar (Opal) Hahn, Iva (Clyde) Jaco, Irene (Paul) Reid, Louetta Henson, Ida Mae (Troy) Hartle; and Robert’s siblings, Betty (late Vernon “Bud”) Strack and Maxine (Lyman) Stevens.
The Rev. Jimmie Corbin will conduct a graveside service at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests New McKendree Methodist Church.
