Nelson Lorenz

Nelson Lorenz, 64, of Altenburg, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 13, 1958, in Perryville, Missouri, to Erwin M. and Leota S. Etzold Lorenz.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown, Missouri, also the church of his marriage to Belinda “Bea” Davis, on April 28, 1984.  Two sons were born to their union, Jared and Spencer.

Nelson was a 1977 graduate of Jackson High School and a member of FFA.  He was a welder by trade, working nearly 20 years at Standley Batch, retiring in 1996.  Thereafter, he worked at Ron’s Butcher Shop in Old Appleton and Beech Manufacturing in Altenburg.

Nelson loved being outdoors.  He especially enjoyed fishing, welding, tinkering, going to auctions, and making homemade wine.  And, as far as Nelson was concerned, ice cream was a food group.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bea Lorenz of Altenburg; sons, Jared Lorenz of Delta and Spencer Lorenz of Old Appleton; an infant twin grandson, River Maes Lorenz; five siblings, Dennis (Carol) Lorenz of Shawneetown, Rita (James) Whaley of Jackson, Curtis (Debby) Lorenz of Pocahontas, Missouri, Linda (Terry) Roth, and Wanda (James) Eaves, both of Jackson; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant twin grandson, Leonardo Oliver Nelson Lorenz, and his parents.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2023, and from 9:30 a.m., to service time, Thursday, January 19, 2023, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Rev. Douglas Breite will conduct the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Shawneetown.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Living Hope, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, or Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Shawneetown.
