Nelta M. (Smith) Haupt

Nelta Marie Haupt, 74, of Millersville, passed away, Friday, February 3, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

The youngest of five children, Nelta was born March 3, 1948, near Millersville, Mo., to Lloyd L. and Sarah J. (Smith) Smith.  She and Loy Denzil Haupt were married June 25, 1976 at Caney Fork Baptist Church near Oak Ridge, Missouri. They had one son, Brian.  They had been married nearly 38 years when Loy passed away April 3, 2014.

Nelta went to grade school in Kurreville and Millersville, and was a 1965 graduate of Jackson High School.  She worked several years at the hosiery mill in Jackson, and 22 years at Rapco, retiring in 2012.

The job she took the most pleasure in was helping on the Haupt family farm.  Until a few weeks ago, she was able to take care of her chickens and ride the side-by-side to count cattle.

Nelta was a lifelong member of Caney Fork Baptist Church near Oak Ridge.  In her spare time, she liked to work on jigsaw puzzles and word search puzzles.

Loving survivors include a son Brian Haupt (Jessica) of Millersville; two sisters, Naida (Adrian) Wills, Jr. of Millersville and Neidra (the late Don) Borchelt of Shawneetown; a sister-in-law, Betty (the late Robert) Smith of Millersville; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loy Haupt, and two brothers, Donald (Joan) Smith, and Robert Smith.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The Rev. Don Estes will conduct the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Caney Fork Baptist Cemetery near Millersville.
