Norman W. Birk

February 11, 1924 — May 6, 2015

Norman W. Birk, 91, of Jackson, went to his eternal home with Christ, Wednesday, May 6, 2015. He resided at Jackson Manor the past three years.

He was born February 11, 1924, near Tilsit, Missouri, to Oscar and Olinda Best Birk. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. He attended the church's former grade school and the former public school in Tilsit.

Norman and Doris Kaminskey were married April 15, 1945, at the parsonage of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. They were active members of the congregation until 1962, when they transferred their membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, where Norman was a member of the Men's Club and formerly served as a trustee.

He was a self-employed farmer and trucker. In the mid-1980's, declining health perpetuated the sale of the farm south of Jackson and the Birks moved to Jackson. Norman enjoyed yard work, gardening, and playing cards. He and Doris liked to travel and visit their children. They visited most of the U.S. and the Canadaian Provinces of Nova Scotia.

Loving survivors include his wife of 70 years, Doris of Jackson; four children, Patricia (the late Irven) Graham of San Antonio, Texas, Janet Birk (Arjan Hossein Jaminia) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Dennis (Chris) Birk of De Forest, Wisconsin, Roger (Tammy) Birk of Jackson; seven grandchildren: Jeffray (Pattie) Graham and son Robert; Lauren Birk; Samuel (Terri) Birk and children Katherine, Daniel, and Aaron; Michael Birk and son Kamden; Pamela Birk and son Aiden; David Birk; Jesse Birk; a sister, Frances (the late James) Cobble of Arnold, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Irene (the late Clement) Birk of St. Charles, Missouri, Shirley (the late Truman) Birk of Jackson, Shirley (the late Tom) Kaminskey of Jackson; and a brother-in-law, Leonard (the late Alene) Koenig of Jackson.

Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 11 AM, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating.

Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
