Paul Ray Scholl, 89, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Missouri.

Paul was born March 24, 1936, in Pocahontas, Missouri, to Otto and Lena Ludwig Scholl. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas and was a graduate of the church’s grade school. He was a 1955 graduate of Jackson High School. One evening, after a Lutheran League gathering, Paul met Leola Koenig of Farrar, at Ewald’s Bar-B-Q in Perryville. They were married September 6, 1959, at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar.

Paul was an artist. Painting and woodcarving were his passions. His meticulous work as a sign maker was appreciated and respected in the counties of Perry, Scott, and Cape Girardeau. He operated a sign shop in Perryville at Kiefer’s Garage for 12 years; worked 20 years in the advertising department for Milde Coca-Cola of Jackson; and 11 years for Canady Sign Co. in Sikeston. After retirement, he worked 21 years as a delivery driver for Schnucks.

Paul and Leola were faithful members of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, and former members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. Paul was always active in the men’s club and often served as an usher.

Survivors include his children, Terry (Kara) Scholl of Jackson; Sharon (Jim) McMillan of Herrin, Illinois; and Kevin (LaVanda) Scholl of Arnold, Missouri; grandchildren, Erica (Clay) Rouse and their children Jack and Claire of Jackson; Brendan Scholl of Jackson; and Madison (Jake) Mayfield and their daughter, Josie, of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a grandson, Hayden Scholl; a sister, Margaret (Harlan) Meyr; his parents, Otto and Lena Scholl; Leola’s, parents, Martin and Agnes (Koenig) Koenig; and Leola’s brother, Delmar (Ruby) Koenig.
