Pearla Mae (Skelton) Smith

Pearla Mae Smith, 65, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 26, 1956, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, daughter of Charles D. and Carrie Roca Skelton. She and David E. Murphy were married on October 7, 1978, at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville. They had two children born to their union. David passed away on September 5, 1998.

Pearla was a 1974 graduate of Jackson High School. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville. Pearla was a professional secretary working at Southeast Hospital with her final position being that of a hospice volunteer coordinator for Southeast Hospice, which fit her well as she had a big heart, with a passion and love for helping others. She loved to do crafts and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Pearla treasured and loved spending time with her grandchildren, loved family gatherings, and feeding others.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Dana Murphy and a son, Paul Murphy, both of Jackson, her parents, Charles D. and Carrie Skelton of Cape Girardeau, three brothers, Steve (Susan) Skelton of Jackson, Keith (Alice) Skelton of Oak Ridge, Kent (Donna) Skelton of Perryville, four grandchildren, Jayden Allen, Dominick Allen, Justice Lotts, and Drayson Lotts, and a great granddaughter, Addie Allen.

Also, surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years.

Visitation will be Monday, July 18, 2022, from 4 pm to 8 pm at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 9 am until service time at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 10 am, at the church, with the Rev. Jacob T. May officiating.

Interment will follow in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gordonville.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Christ Lutheran Church, 248 Albert Lane, Gordonville, Missouri 63752.

Pearla’s family would like to give a special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and technicians at the Lutheran Home who provided such diligent and kind care to her.
