Randolph Warren "Randy" Bohnert, age 72, of Oak Ridge passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at his home.
He was born January 2, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, son of Rudolph G. and Hattie L. Grass Bohnert. He and Shirley Hitt were married July 26, 1968 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Randy was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church at Shawneetown and later joined St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a member for many years. Shortly after his graduation from Oak Ridge High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served from July 16, 1963 until being honorably discharged December 13, 1966. He remained in the Naval Reserves and was called to active duty in 1991 during the Desert Storm conflict. Randy was a self-employed electrician for many years and was co-owner of Royal Electric Company of Jackson. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and the VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, Shirley Bohnert, loving survivors include a daughter, Stacy (Spencer) Dewerff of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren, Sabrina and Sawyer Dewerff; a step-grandson Seth Dewerff; two brothers, Myron (Esther) Bohnert of Jackson and Jay (JoAnn) Bohnert of St. Louis; two sisters, Sharon (Weldon) Unterreiner of Perryville, Missouri and Karlin Bohnert of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marty Joe Bohnert.
The visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating.
Interment will be Old Goshen Cemetery near Oak Ridge with military honors.
The family suggests that contributions be made to Old Goshen Cemetery or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
