Raymond Lynn Murray, 76, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, April 10, 2020, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Hull, Iowa, son of the late John R. and Loretta Sawyer Murray.
Ray was valedictorian of the 1961 graduating class of Boyden-Hull High School in Hull.
In 1965 he graduated from the University of South Dakota, with a bachelor’s degree in economics and then a master’s degree in economics from the University of Iowa.
After serving two tours in Viet Nam in the U. S. Army (July of 1968 to July of 1971,) he went back to school. He received another MBA from Southwest Texas State at San Marcos, Texas, which included a CFA professional designation in lieu of a doctoral degree.
He worked in his chosen field in Des Moines Iowa and Dallas, Texas, retiring from the Public Utility Commission of Texas in Austin, Texas.
After retiring, he moved to Crystal Beach, Texas to be a beach bum. Ten years ago he moved to Cape Girardeau to be near his brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Judy Murray, and their family. Since he had no children of his own, he enjoyed his nieces and nephews and their families: Doug, Angie, Donna, Stephen, Michael, Robin, Emily, Johnathon and all of their families.
As a result of COVID-19, private burial will be held in June, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, however, a full Military Honors service in Bloomfield, will be announced for the public at a later date.
Cremation was accorded by McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
