Robert Lynn Voges

May 5, 1937 — February 1, 2021

Jackson, Missouri

God called Robert Lynn “Bob” Voges to his heavenly home on February 1, 2021.  After a hard battle with metastatic prostate cancer, he passed away at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Bob was born May 5, 1937, in Jackson, to Earl Henry and Louise Catherine Schloss Voges.  He was a 1957 graduate of Jackson High school.    Prior to graduation, he enlisted in Missouri National Guard, serving from 1956 to 1966 with the 140 Infantry in Jackson.

Bob was baptized September 5, 1937, and confirmed April 2, 1950, at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.    He and Vera Jean Siebert were united in marriage on May 11, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. They have been married 62 years.  Three children were born to their union, Roger Lynn, Carla Jean, and Ricky Lynn.

Bob had many work experiences during his life:  In high school, he worked at a filling station.  He was a partner in United Oil Company.  In 1960, he embarked on a 24-year career with Jackson Ready Mix, serving as plant manager.  He worked 15 years in maintenance at the Cape County Administration Building in Jackson.  Lastly, he worked 18 years at the Jackson Senior Center, delivering Meals on Wheels, retiring at the age of 82.  However, of all his jobs, farming was his favorite.  He loved tending to cattle, raising calves, driving tractors, bailing hay, and playing with his dogs on the farm west of Jackson.

In 1965, Bob became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was an usher, served on numerous committees, and was active in the Men’s Club.  He also drove the bus for St. Paul School.

Robert and Vera enjoyed friendships with many couples that attended local weekend dances.   For many years, Bob and son, Ricky, enjoyed going to the Pevely Race Track on Saturday nights to watch dirt stock car races.

Two of Bob’s most predictable habits were eating Kellogg’s Corn Flakes for breakfast and Nabisco Honeymaid Graham Crackers with milk before bed.

Loving survivors include his wife, Vera Voges of Jackson; daughter, Carla (the late Tim) Clippard; grandchildren, Laurie (Derek) Kluesner of Jackson and Dr. Luke Clippard of Kansas City (girlfriend Dr. Cassie Henninger of Ohio); a sister, Verla (the late Calvin) Sailer of Cape Girardeau; a sister-in-law, Anna Dean Voges of Jackson.

Survivors on Vera’s side of the family include her sister, Irene (the late Earl) Siemers of Cape Girardeau; her brothers, Harlan (Dorothy) Siebert of Cape Girardeau and Vernon (Pat) Siebert of Sikeston.  Both families have numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Robert Lynn was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Lynn Voges and Roger Lynn Voges; son-in-law, Tim Clippard; his parents, Earl and Louise Voges; a brother, W. L. Voges;  a brother-in-law, Calvin Sailer; mother-in-law, Frieda Emma Fluegge Siebert; and Vera’s brothers, Freeman (Ellouise) Siebert, Earl (Gladys) Siebert.

The family extends special thanks to Southeast Cancer Center, Hospital, and Hospice, for all the excellent care, support, and friendship while Bob was in their care.

A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2021, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.  Masks are encouraged and appreciated.  The family will try to expedite the receiving line by keeping visits brief.

The Rev. Jason Shaw will officiate a memorial service at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2021, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Military honors will follow.

The committal will be private at a later date.
