Ronald E. Monighan

Ronald Earl Monighan, 85, of Jackson, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

He was born December 20, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of Elwood "E.J." and Edna Baber Monighan. He and his beloved wife, Joan Neujahr, were married August 21, 1958. She preceded him in death November 4, 1986.

Ronald served in the United States Navy as an E-7 Assistant Gunner Mate. He retired after 21 years and was in the Reserves until June 1, 1978. He then worked 25 years for the St. Louis County Parks Department. Ronald spent the last two years living with his son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Shonda, enjoying life and getting to know his granddaughters, Destinee, Hailee, and Rilee.

Loving survivors include two sons, Ronald Monighan of St. Louis, Missouri, Sean (Shonda) Monighan of Jackson; two daughters, Kathy (Garry) Colbert of Cedar Hill, Missouri and Coleen Monighan of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Ryan Sutton officiating.

Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, in Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis, with full military honors.
