Sally Powell

Wilma "Sally" Powell, 96, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at her home in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

An only child, Sally was born February 23, 1920, in Cape Girardeau to Jess and Lydia Kaiser Crites. She and William "Bill" Kurre were married April 9, 1937. They had one daughter, Judith Ann. They had been married nearly 16 years when Bill passed away January 16, 1953.

Sally and Joe Myer were married February 12, 1955. They had been married 25 years when Joe passed away March 10, 1980. She and Garland Powell were married March 31, 1984. They had been married only 2 ½ years when Garland passed away November 16, 1986.

Sally was raised in Cape Girardeau and attended Cape schools. After her marriage to Bill, she resided in Jackson and remained there until 2011, when she moved to Sulphur Springs to be near her daughter.

Sally was a lifelong active member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.

Her employment included 29 years at the former Hosiery Mill in Jackson, the former Buckner Ragsdale and the former Hartford's in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include her only child, Judith Ann "Judy" Hudgins of Sulphur Springs, Texas; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin K. and Rebecca Hudgins of Sulphur Springs and Kimberly and Gregg Holt of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; a step-granddaughter, Lacey Boyd and husband Kyle of Godley, Texas; 6 great-grandchildren, Kade, Kyle, and Keeley Hudgins, Caleb Holt, MacKenzie and Emma Boyd.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Hudgins and a step-grandson, Chase Holt.

Visitation will be Monday, March 21, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to service time, at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be Monday, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Revs. Sam Roethemeyer and Joe Rowley officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Memorial Fund of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.
