Sharon Kay Chapman, 78, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Southeast.
She was born September 18, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, to August Edward and Louise Hesse Ackman. On February 22, 1966, she married Gale “Norman” Chapman in Cape Girardeau. They shared 55 years of marriage before Norman's passing on July 14, 2022.
Sharon was a graduate of Cape Central High School and held various positions throughout her career, working for Ralph Edwards Sportswear, Florsheim Shoe Company, Auto Trim and Design, and RM COCO, all in Cape Girardeau. She enjoyed being active in her community through the ladies bowling league and the SEMO horseshoe league for over 20 years.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Sharon found great joy in fishing and spending time in nature. She was baptized at Red Star Baptist Church and was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Lisa Chapman of Cape Girardeau; a sister-in-law, Geraldine (late Wayland) Ackman; special nieces and nephew, Bonnie Kay (David) Hendrix, Jeanette Lee (Patricia Kowalski) Hammer, and Marvin (Sharon) McMillian. She was also survived by many other loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents; five sisters and two brothers.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 11, 2025, with the Rev. Frank Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery near Pocahontas, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
