Sherry Kay (Harris) De La Cruz

Sherry De La Cruz, 77, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at her home. She was born on October 10, 1947, in Boone, Iowa, daughter of Richard Lewis and Helen Nichols Harris. She and Dr. Danilo De La Cruz were married on April 29, 1972. They were married for 48 years when he passed away on December 23, 2020. Sherry earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Iowa State University. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Pocahontas, Red Hat Society and Golden Angels Women's Club in Cape Girardeau. Sherry enjoyed vegetable gardening, photography, ceramic painting and being with her family. She was an avid collector of many things. Loving survivors include her eleven children, 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, April Suzanne (Dean) Jones and children Haley and Dawson; Tony (Crisette) De La Cruz and daughter Gillian; Lilah Brevik and children Jasmine and Taylor and Jasmine's children Jayson, Jannesa and Jeriah; Terry De La Cruz; Katrina De La Cruz (Tim O'Dom) and children; Keiko and Kira; Helen (Jonathan) Millson and children Jadin and Kalia; Dina (Matt) Trahan and children Caleb, Isaac, Austin and Ethan; Joy (Justin) Keller and children Oliver and Lucy; Violet De La Cruz; Suzie (Scott) Owen and children Presley, Dani and Ophelia; and Belle (Andrew) De La Cruz- Lysell and son Beau. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one sister, Betty Harris. The visitation will be from noon until service time on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The Rev. Mike Parry will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m., on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the funeral home. Interment will be in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Pocahontas. The family suggests that contributions be made to New Bethel Baptist Church.
