Shirley Jean Coomer, 80, formerly of Jackson, most recently of Wentzville, Missouri, passed away December 12, 2021, at Twin Oaks Senior Living in Wentzville. She was born January 17, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Alvin and Edna Creibaum Nagel. She and Gus W. Coomer were married December 30, 1961, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He passed away September 19, 2012. Shirley attended elementary school at Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau. She graduated from College High in 1958. Shirley was a charter member at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She worked at Country Mart, was a pharmacy technician at John's Pharmacy and Wal-Mart in Cape Girardeau. Shirley and her husband, Gus owned and operated The Mud Hut Ceramics in Cape Girardeau for many years. Her hobbies included bowling with Gus in Jackson Bowling League and square dancing with the Cape County Square Dancers Club. Loving survivors include two sons, Jeff (Becky) Coomer of Troy, Missouri and Mike (Denise) Coomer of St. Charles, Missouri, a daughter, Shirl (Tim) Burton of Westminster, Co., four grandchildren, Travis (Lauren) Coomer of St. Charles, Samantha (Lucas) Kessels of Winfield, Missouri, Alison Coomer of Davis Ca., and Cole Burton of Westminster, Co., four great-grandchildren, Grayson and Hudson Coomer, and Alexis and Joseph Kessels, and a sister, Patricia (the late Lloyd) Schultz of Livonia Michigan. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, her parents, and a brother, Lonnie Nagel. Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2021, from 4 to 8 pm at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 10 am, at the funeral home, with Vicar Tim Koehler officiating. Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Memorials may take the form of contributions to Saxony Lutheran High School in Cape Girardeau.
