Shirley Sue Statler, 81, of Jackson, (wife of Eugene D. "David" Grojean), passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017, at her home.
She was born February 18, 1936, in Neelys Landing, Missouri, to Fred and Hazel McLain Parker. She and Jerry L. Statler were married March 27, 1954, in Jackson. They had been married 33 years when Jerry passed away May 16, 1987. She and David Grojean were married in June 1990, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He survives.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Jackson High School. Her working career was spent waitressing in several of the local restaurants, the longest time being spent at the former Holiday Inn.
After marrying and moving to Chicago, she and David enjoyed going to the horse races at Arlington Race Track. She thoroughly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. They would often visit flea markets, auctions, and going "junkin" together. Shirley was an avid collector of antique dolls.
Loving survivors include her husband of 27 years, David Grojean of Jackson; two daughters, Vickie Boren of St. Louis and Cathy Justus of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Jeremy (Katie) Boren and their son Max, and Jeff (Jill) Boren, both of St. Louis, Jacob Justus of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Jackie Huckstep of LaGrange, Georgia.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Delbert Parker.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to service time, Thursday, September 14, 2017, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
