Affectionately known as “Nanny”, Susan Virginia “Sue” Tatum, 82, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the Monticello House in Jackson.
She was born February 15, 1938, in Martin, Kentucky, to Edward and Susan Barnes Johnson. She and Clyde Tatum were married December 8, 1956, in New Madrid, Missouri. Three children were born to their union. They had been married 61 years when Clyde passed away February 10. 2018.
Sue worked as a CNA at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau, from 1983-2000. She was passionate about her work and loved getting to know her patients. She also scheduled gas deliveries for her husband, who managed MFA Oil.
Sue was a longtime member of Cape Community Church, formerly Westside Church of God, in Cape Girardeau, where she was active in Bible study, Sunday school, and church fellowship. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Jackson.
Sue was a devoted wife and mother, and a fabulous southern cook. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Survivors include two sons, Alan (Tina) Tatum of Hernando, Mississippi and David (Cindy) Tatum of Jackson; four grandchildren, Kyle, Faith, Dustin, and Macy; a great-grandson, Evander; six in-laws: Ramona (the late Wayne) McGinnis of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Annetta Prince of Batesville, Arkansas; Brenda (Paul Ralph) Atwill of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Dean (Janice) Tatum of Marion, Arkansas; Stephen (Pam) Tatum of Batesville; Ronnie Tatum of Batesville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a stillborn daughter; her parents; and eight siblings: Richard, Vermont, Elmo, Gray, Billy David, Lawrence, and Charles Johnson, and Lorene Looney.
Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, December 21, 2020, at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
Sue’s son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Tina Tatum will officiate a graveside service, at 12:30, Monday, at Mounds Park Cemetery in Lilbourn, Missouri, where Sue will be laid to rest with Clyde and their stillborn daughter.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Cape Community Church or Crown Hospice.
