Theresa "Terrie" McCarter, 70, passed away at her home and into the arms of her heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026. Born to the late Charles Sr. and Rose Marie (Spears) Thrower on June 28th, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Earnest Halston “Hal” McCarter in November 27, 1992 and they initially made their home in Cape Girardeau before later relocating to Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Terrie lived her life with the heart of a servant, selflessly devoted to those in need. Her empathetic heart was felt and embraced by her family and friends. Terrie served in her career as a respiratory therapist and later a dedicated and decorated licensed addiction treatment counselor. She and Hal, her loving husband of thirty years, walked and worked hand in hand together while expanding their regional outreach, working to aid those in the community who were experiencing challenges in their lives. For several years Terrie and Hal owned and operated Here's Hope Counseling Center in Dyersburg, Tennessee--touching and helping the hearts of those they encountered along the way.

Terrie always loved meeting new people and striking up conversations with those she would encounter throughout her day-to-day life. She was never afraid to reach out to those around her with a welcoming smile, a warm embrace, and a compassionate heart. One of her great passions was cooking, she loved to prepare great meals to accompany times of fellowship. Terrie was a natural caretaker, and enjoyed spending quality time with family and her cherished dog Baxter, listening to gospel music, gardening, and putting together intricate and elaborate puzzles.

You could also find her repairing multiple types of gadgets, from computers to furniture--she was very knowledgeable in repair work, as well as a master seamstress/quilter. Making an elaborate dress for less, was a very special talent of hers, amongst many others; her eye for detail in everything she did was evident and appreciated. She prided herself on her involvement and dedication to 12 Step recovery programs. This passion and dedication included attending 12 Step conventions, incarceration facilities, and helping to establish recovery programs regionally.

As a proud patriot, Terrie's enthusiasm for the United States of America was unwavering, she never took freedom for granted and fondly spoke of her country and her thankfulness for those who serve and served.

After her husband passed away in 2021, Terrie relocated to Jackson, Missouri; and continued her independent living until her final day. Terrie was a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She will be joyfully remembered and deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by; her parents, her beloved husband, two brothers, Tom Thrower and Charlie Thrower Jr.

Terrie is survived by four brothers; Tony Thrower, Tim Thrower, Tyke (MaeAnn) Thrower, Tyler Thrower, a sister; Tammi (Jack) Pettet, a sister-in-law; Judy (Charlie) Thrower Jr., three children; Jerimy (Lucia) Obergoenner, Jill (David) Watkins, Stephanie (Jason) Jackson, five grandchildren; Nate (Anna), Jemma, Ryan, Evan, Ethan, and two great-grandchildren; Vivian and Juniper.
