Thomas Jenkins Baker, 80, of Chaffee, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Chaffee Nursing Center. Tom lived a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and a deep devotion to the people he loved.
He was born on December 23, 1945, to Audrey Malone and Albert Baker. He was a proud graduate of Cape Central High School and served in the United States Navy.
Tom’s professional life was rooted in craftsmanship and integrity. He began his career at Cape Paint and Glass, the family business started by his parents, and later continued his dedicated work with Davis Glass Company. Whether at work or home, he was known for taking pride in doing things he right way.
His greatest role, however, was that of a loving father and devoted grandfather. He was the family’s "steady"; the dependable babysitter, the trusted chauffeur, and the man who could fix just about anything.
His grandchildren were the center of his world, and he gave them his time, guidance, and unwavering love. Tom will be fondly remembered for his spunk, his quick sense of humor, and a gift for storytelling that could make anyone laugh.
Survivors include his two daughters, Laura (Keith) Whitworth of Bryant, Arkansas, and Stephanie (Ryan) Ellinger of Scott City, Missouri; and five grandchildren: Kaleb and Larissa Whitworth, and Cole, Aubrie, and Gracie Ellinger. He is also survived by his siblings, Albert Baker, Sallie Loos, and Jeff (Christine) Baker; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends who were truly family by heart.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John and sister-in-law Karen Baker; his brother-in-law, Larry Loos; and his nephews, Kevin Baker, Ron Baker, and Alex Baker.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Chaffee Nursing Center for the exceptional love, compassion, and care they provided over the last four years. They treated Tom like family, bringing comfort to him and his loved ones beyond words.
Though his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, his family carries his love with them in everything they do. He was a blessing to all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, at 12:30 PM at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, MO, with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Cape Memorial Park Cemetery following the conclusion of the service.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made for the Activity Fund at the Chaffee Nursing Center.
