Thomas Ray "Tom" Nations, age 73, of Jackson, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 21, 1950, in Cape Girardeau, son of Kermit G. and Ruth Smith Nations. He and Glenda Haertling were married March 1, 1975, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. She survives.
Tom was a graduate of Jackson High School Class of 1968. Upon graduation from high school, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for four years in the Vietnam War. Tom was a member of Elks Lodge 2652 in Jackson, the American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and the V.F.W. Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau. He was a co-owner of Hahs Office Equipment in Cape Girardeau for many years and later worked at Foutz's Hunting and Fishing in Cape Girardeau. Tom was an avid fisherman and loved getting together to play cards with his friends at the Elks Lodge. He will be missed by many.
Loving survivors include his wife of 48 years, Glenda Nations, a sister, Cheryl (Don) Reinagel, of Kelso, Mo., three sisters-in-law, Connie (Dan) Peiffer, of Jackson, Bonnie (Bob) Schulte of Troy, Mo. and Amy Haertling, (the late Christopher) of New Wells and brother-in-law, Stanley (Chris) Haertling of New Wells.
Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Erin Fluegge, Sarah Geringer, R.J. (Madeline) Schulte, Megan (Matt) Moore, Amanda Peiffer, Blake Peiffer, Anna Haertling-Clearman, Brett (Jamie) Haertling, Allison Haertling, and Jackson Haertling.
Family members preceding him in death include his parents; and a brother, Kermit Nations, Jr. Glenda's late family includes her parents, Vernon and Norma Haertling; her brother, Christopher Haertling and her young twin brother, Glenn Haertling.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 4 to 7 pm at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be Friday, September 22, 2023, at 10 am, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
