Vera Farrow

March 12, 1915 — February 15, 1985

Vera I. Farrow, 101 of Jackson, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 12, 1915, in Perry County, Missouri, to John C. and Esther Cox Davis. She and Arnold W. Farrow eloped March 12, 1937, to Benton, Missouri. They had been married nearly 48 years when Arnold passed away February 15, 1985.

Vera was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. She worked briefly at the former Dorsa Dress Factory in uptown Jackson, but what she really enjoyed was babysitting in her home. Some of her other favorite activities were sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, and wordsearch puzzles.

At the age of 101, Vera was still able to enjoy the freedom and independence of living alone. Her daughters will especially miss the frequent visits they shared at her home.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Marcella (the late J.D.) Green and LaFern Judd both of Jackson; five grandchildren, Debbie (Kevin) Schearf of Jackson, Jennifer Elliott, Michele (Robert) Housman of Sikeston, Chris (Racquel) Green of Jackson, and Stephen Green of Jackson; five great- grandchildren, Makala Elliott, Justin Green (fiancee Megan Twomey), Braxton Green, Colton Housman, Brandon Housman and his son Weston Housman.

Also surviving are three siblings, Lillie (the late Arthur) Kraemer, Percy (Maxine) Davis of Perryville, Melva (the late Walter) Floyd of Jackson; and a sister-in-law, Esther (the late John) Davis of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Jerry Farrow; and eight siblings, Mildred (Everett) Brown, Homer (Norma) Davis, Henry (Lucille) Davis, Zeta Putz, Lillian (Evert) Weber, James (Bonnie) Davis, Amos (Thelma) Davis, and John Davis.

Visitation is Monday, January 9, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to service time, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral is Monday, January 9, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crossroads Church or First Baptist Church, both in Jackson.
