Verna (Mouser) Drum

January 1, 1934 — December 3, 2022

Jackson, Missouri

Verna Drum, 88, died Saturday, December 3, 2022, at her home in Jackson.

She was born January 1, 1934, in Glen Allen, Missouri, to Glen and Vertis Sitze Mouser.  She and Arnold "Jr." Drum were married October 24, 1952.  They had been married only 37 years when Jr. passed away March 24, 1989.

Verna worked many years at Lenco in Jackson.  She was a longtime, faithful member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, where she participated in various ministries, most recently serving on the bereavement committee.

Verna will be remembered by family and friends for many amazing talents, such as her incredible gardening skills and delicious cooking that always put smiles on faces and seconds on plates.  When she got off work, she faithfully prepared a four course family meal, and still, she could be found sewing in the wee hours of the morning before another work day.  She could comfort a baby and prepare a meal for a grieving family in no time.  One of her favorite sayings was, "If you rest, you'll rust."  Classic Verna!

Loving survivors include two children, Rick Drum of Jackson and Debbie (Kenny) Killingsworth of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Danielle Nussbaum of Jackson, Caitlin (Brent) Newsome of Smith Station, Alabama, Nathan Osborn of Des Moines, Iowa, and Rachel Osborn of Tulsa; six great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Colton, Avery, Berklie, Blake, and Josephine; a sister, Sharon Cureton; and a sister-in-law, Virgie Drum.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Kenneth Mouser and Willard (Wanda) Mouser; brothers-in-law, Ted, and Wilson Drum; and sisters-in-law, Alphie Brune and Alma Doggett.

Visitation is from 12 – 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Jackson.  The Rev. Troy Richardson will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at the church.  Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

If considering a memorial donation, the family suggestions the First Baptist Church Bereavement Committee.
