It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Victory Arnold "Vic" Macke, age 82, on July 20, 2025, at the Monticello House in Jackson.
Vic was born on June 16, 1943, in Gordonville, Missouri, to Arnold August Macke and Lillian Albertine Niemann Macke. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson during his early years and remained a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. It was here that, after many years of trying to go his own way, he reconnected with Jesus, which helped him find a better direction in life.
Vic spent many years working for various towboat and barge companies as a dedicated deckhand.
A devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, Vic rarely missed a game on television. He was surprised to get to experience watching the Cardinals from a luxury suite at Busch Stadium, surrounded by his siblings, his daughter, and his nephews.
Vic was also a competitive pitch player and loved the many spirited games he shared with his siblings over the years. He never missed the annual pitch tournament held at his daughter and son‑in‑law's shop. Christmas Day always found him around a table playing pitch-surrounded by his brothers, sister, and family-filling the room with laughter and friendly competition.
Vic leaves behind his beloved children: Kathy (Dave) Borgfield, Karen McClard, Patti (Dean) Duesing, Donna (Doug) Craft, and Vickie (Dennie) Ruch, along with 11 grandchildren and 14 great‑grandchildren, who will forever treasure his love and memories. He is also survived by his siblings: sister Lilly Newell; brothers Paul (and sister‑in‑law Sharon) Macke; and brother Sam Macke.
The visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The Rev. Joshua Schmidt will conduct the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the funeral home. There will be a private burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church or St. Paul Lutheran School.
