Violet L. Lafferty, 97 of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Hubble Creek Nursing Center in Jackson.
She was born March 30, 1928 in Naylor, Missouri the daughter of Thomas William “Dewey” and Ethel Mae Blagg Grisham. On January 4, 1946 she married John Weldon Lafferty Sr. They had met in 1945 just shortly after WWII. John was a Navy man and while in the service they resided in Norfolk, Virginia, Baltimore, Maryland and New Port, Rhode Island. Violet and John returned to Naylor in 1953 to live on the farm.
While living in Baltimore they were bless with a daughter, Barbara Jean and a son, John W. Jr. In 1963 she and John moved to O’Fallon, Missouri and in 1978 moved to Jackson.
Violet was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson where she received the nickname “Foxy”. She was very active in the church singing in the choir, served on the senior adult council, bereavement committee, Dorcus Sunday School Class, participated in the Easter Pageant, and volunteered in the church office.
She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, crossword puzzles, doing skits, and jokes with friends.
Loving survivors include her grandchildren, Heather (Paul) Schnurbusch of Altenburg, Missouri, Trashea (Jeff) Renfro of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and Michael Lafferty of Fayetteville, Tennessee; Great grandchildren, Meagan Pulliam, Madison, Schoolfield, McKenzi Dobble, Ella Caroline Lafferty, Amber Thompson, Heather Blanford, Cooper Weldon Lafferty, Luke Renfro, and Matt Schnurbusch; brother, Wayne (Carole) Grisham of Naylor, Missouri; and a son-in-law, Carl Green of Jackson.
Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John of fifty years; her children Barbara Jean Green and John Weldon Lafferty Jr; a brother Edward (Opal) Grisham; and a nephew, Thomas Grisham.
Visitation will be from 12 pm – 2 pm Sunday, February 22, 2026 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The funeral Service will be Sunday at 2 pm at the funeral home with Revs. Troy Richards and Randy Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
