Virgil "Jd" J Freeman

Virgil J. Freeman Jr., better known as "JD", from Oak Ridge, MO passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on August 11, 1959, to Virgil J. Freeman Sr. and Margie Ellen (Midkiff) Freeman in Sikeston MO. JD married Mary Retherford on March 11, 1995, in Oak Ridge. JD is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Carrie (Cassidy) Bumpus, Aaron (Brandi) Oberle, Andrew Freeman, Justin (Madeline) Freeman; a daughter- in-law, Courtney Freeman; a mother-in-law, Marilyn Retherford; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and numerous "Bonus" children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, David Retherford; son, Chris Freeman and grandchild, Jackson Freeman. JD was employed at Ingram Barge Company for 26 years as an engineer. When not on the boat JD spent his time with his family enjoying all types of family activities. He loved to travel to historic sites and car shows. He was a Mr. Fixit and always tinkering with something or building in his shop. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved teaching his grandchildren those skills. Every October he was known as one of the Best Pumpkin Carver and patiently carved designs for his kids and grandchildren. Father Jim French will conduct the funeral mass at 10 a.m., on Saturday May 24, 2025, at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle. A celebration of life will be held in the fellowship hall following the mass from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., providing an opportunity for friends to offer their condolences to the family. Interment will be in St. Maurus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation.
