A dear pastor, the Rev. Walter Edgar Fehrmann, 95, of Jackson, fell asleep in the loving arms of his beloved Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 19, 2017, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.
He was born February 14, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to George Paul and Clara Engelbert Fehrmann. He was first married to Hildegard Geiser. She passed away in 1967. His second wife, Esther Polster passed away in 1974. He and Lois Loesel-Wroge were married November 1, 1975, in Billings, Montana. She survives.
Walter was a 1941 graduate of Concordia Institute in Bronxville, New York, and a 1945 graduate of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Born with the heart of a servant, and pastoring for over 70 years, Walter was ordained into the holy ministry (Missouri Synod), on August 19, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cincinnati, where he served 12 years. Thereafter, he served six years in Lutheran missions in Papua New Guinea. Upon returning to the U.S., he served the following congregations: five years at Good Shepherd and Grace Lutheran in Evansville, Indiana; 12 years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Missouri; and six years at Immanuel Lutheran in Higginsville, Missouri, retiring in 1987.
In retirement, he consecuetively served over 20 years as an assistant pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, and 12 years at Peace Lutheran in Wappapello, Missouri.
Other capacities in which he served include: counselor for the Cincinnati Circuit; the Papua New Guinea Lutheran Executive Mission Board; Indiana District Board for Evangelism; and counselor of the Altenburg Circuit.
Walter treasured his family, each and every one. To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of 41 years, Lois Fehrmann of Jackson; six children, Rev. John (Carol) Fehrmann of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Nathaniel (Amy) Fehrmann of Denver, Colorado, Ronald Wroge-Fehrmann and wife Elena of Broomfield, Colorado, Lynette Wroge-Hesterman and husband Jeffery of Prattville, Alabama, James (Carol) Wroge of Corning, California, Steven (Daphne) Wroge of Spokane, Washington; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Fehrmann; an infant son, George Paul Fehrmann; and three siblings, Arthur Fehrmann, Elsie May Fehrmann, and Laura "Dolly" Fehrmann.
Walter's well known and regularly used words, "God bless and keep you," will be missed by many of his Christian friends.
