William "Harold" Curnell, Jr., 90 of Scott City, died Saturday, July 30, 2022, at his home in presence of loved ones. William was born May 12, 1932, in Illmo, Missouri to William Harold and Catherine Louise Cavaness Curnell, Sr. He and Jeanette Clingingsmith were married on March 17, 1957, in Illmo. William served the U.S. Marine Corps from February 10, 1951, through March 6, 1954. He was a railroad locomotive engineer for Cottonbelt of Southern Pacific Railroads for 40 years. William was also a dedicated member of Scott City Baptist Church and a soldier of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine, a daughter, Kimberly G. Curnell, a brother, Dougals E. Curnell, and a sister, Rubye J. Hawkins. William is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeanette Curnell, a son, Bill (Marla) Curnell, both of Scott City. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jeanalise (Brett) Shantz, Amanda Taylor of Springfield, Mo, Ashley (Nick) Pupek of Cape Girardeau, William H. Curnell, IV of Jackson, Scott Curnell of Crystal City, Ashley Laminack of Morley, Cortland Stephenson of Morehouse and Dylan Eaton of Scott City, great grandchildren, Halie Shantz, Zoey Shantz, Bri Pupek, Merrin Pupek, Felix Pupek, Aleeyah White, and Noah Laminack. To honor William's request there will be no services. The family entrusted McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson with William's final arrangements.
