William "Bill" P. Dockins, 83 of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday October 4, 2017 at Chateau Girardeau.
He was born February 22, 1934, in Lutesville, Missouri, son of Glen and Stella Lee Teeters Dockins. He and Marcella "Marcy" Mitchell were married July 19, 1991.
Bill attended school in Scopus and graduated from Jackson High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in Education from Southeast Missouri State University. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army serving 1953-1956. He was owner and operator of Dockins Valuation Co. in Cape Girardeau for many years. He obtained education and training to become designated MAI/SRA "Member Appraisal Institute", training and employing appraisers who still remain in this area. Bill has been retired for four years due to health issues. Bill has been a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church for a number of years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cape Girardeau and served as a past President, board member, chairman for Community service, and Lieutenant Governor of Division 15 for Missouri/ Arkansas District.
Loving survivors include his wife Marcella "Marcy" Dockins of 26 years, two daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Grohoski of Lake Orion, Michigan and Kimberly Dockins of Cape Girardeau, two step-daughters, Myra Neeley of Cape Girardeau, and Rebecca Sims of Las Vegas, Nevada, one step-son Charles (Karen) Neeley of Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Also surviving is one sister, Mary Ann (Gerald) Burgess of Jackson, one sister-in-law, Elaine (Richard) Wild of Mounds, IL, and mother-in-law Dollie Achenbach of Cape Girardeau. Bill also leaves behind one grandson, Alexander "Alex" Dockins, his "buddy" and apple of his eye, several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glenn Dockins, and sister Wanda Dockins Clark.
Visitation will be Friday October 6, 2017 from 4:00- 7:00 P.M. at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be Saturday October 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Shultz officiating.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Cape Girardeau Humane Society, church or charity of choice.
