Zachary F. Gilbert

Zachary Fitzpatrick Gilbert, age 44, of Dexter, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born January 7, 1977 in Charleston, South Carolina the son of Daniel A. and Elizabeth R. Conway Gilbert. Zach had lived and grew up in the community of Emmetsburg, Iowa. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School where he participated in football, basketball, and track. He also attended Iowa Lakes Community College and later University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Zach has lived in southeast Missouri for the past 10 years, working for Excel and Nestle Purina. He had owned and operated a couple of collectible shops in Jackson and also Dexter. Zach enjoyed fishing, bowling, football, baseball, being around people, and especially enjoyed anything sci-fi related. He was always one who wanted to help others in a time of need. Loving survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Gilbert of Dexter; his father, Dan Gilbert of San Diego, California; a son, Sam Niswonger; two step daughters, Jonna Pemberton and Olivia Niswonger; a brother, Zechiel Gilbert and his wife Jaimie; and two nephews, Matthew and Jonathon Gilbert. As per Zach’s wishes there will be no services. In keeping with his personality and belief in helping others he made the decision to do organ donation so as to bring others a better quality of life and extend their healing. Arrangements are by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. In lieu of memorials the family request that you just reach out and help someone who has a need, this would be the best way to memorialize Zach’s memory.
