Adela Moore Obituary

Adela V. Lange Moore, 90, of Altenburg passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau.

One of 11 children, Adela was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Tilsit to Ferdinand and Alma Loos Lange.

She was a graduate of Immanuel Lutheran School in Tilsit and was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, also the church of her marriage to John Moore on Dec. 19, 1954. Later, they became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

Together, Adela and John enjoyed square-dancing and were members of the Hilltoppers and Cape County Swingers. Adela was employed at the shoe factory, Lee Rowan and McDonald’s, all in Jackson. When John’s health began to decline, Adela left public employment and dedicated herself to his care at home. They had been married 35 years when John passed away Dec. 26, 1989.

Adela was an accomplished quilter. She quilted at home and with the ladies at St. Paul Church. She was passionate about volunteering at the Jackson Senior Center. She helped in the kitchen, and the day before her passing, she helped at the puzzle table at the center. From 2004-2023 she had over 15,000 hours as an Americorps Seniors RSVP Volunteer. She previously volunteered at SEMO Food Bank, SALT, Missouri Veterans Home and Jackson Food Pantry. She was a charter member of Rotary Club of Southeast Missouri Service.

Loving survivors include three daughters, Vicki Schaefer (Penny Stanfill) and Linda (Rob) Puchbauer of Jackson and Sandi (Timothy) Doubledee of Altenburg; four grandchildren, Joe Schaefer, and his fiance, Olga Kerillova, and her children, Wyatt, Kalina and Lily of Jackson; Matt Schaefer of Jackson; Tyler (Stacy) Puchbauer and children, Samantha and Riley; and Kelli (David) Shuffit and daughter, Makenzie of Jackson.

Adela was preceded in death by her husband and 10 siblings, Melva Mirly, Hilda Haunschild, Elfrieda Lange, Hulda James, Tekla Kuntze, Elda Loenecke, Richard Lange, Walter Lange, Ritor Lange and Thelma Lange.
