Augustine Jones Obituary

Augustine H. Jones, 84, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020, at her home in Oak Ridge.

She was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Cooke County, Texas, to Felix L.K. “Ken” and Mary Tuggle Henley.

She and Robin Jones were married Aug. 17, 1955, in Abilene, Texas. They had been married 64 years when Robin passed away Aug. 30, 2019.

Augustine retired from AT&T/Pacific Bell after years of dedicated service, holding many jobs from switchboard operator to analyst.

She was a devoted wife and mother who put everyone’s needs before her own and took great pleasure in spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was an amazing cook! A few of her specialties were wheat germ biscuits, chicken fried steak, fried chicken and apricot fried pies. Even outside the kitchen, she could do practically anything. She took care of the yard, cleaned the house, did the laundry, fed the crew no matter who showed up, and fixed the plumbing. She enjoyed playing cards with the ladies from church until her mind was no longer able and, while in California, enjoyed many Quick Way burgers and Baskin Robbins ice cream with her dear friends.

She was a member of the Jackson Church of Christ, assisting with Thursday School until her health declined.

Loving survivors include four children, Mark Jones of Oak Ridge; Terry Jones of Hayward, California; Andrea (Paul) Pederson of Mesa, Arizona; and Renee (Robert) Barks of Oak Ridge; eight grandchildren, Christopher Jones of Jackson, Mark Jones of Cape Girardeau, Kyle Jones of Hayward, Kaitlin Jones of New York, Noah and Jonah Pederson of Mesa, Anthony (Jodie) Barks of Oak Ridge and Ashley (Greg) Martin of Jackson; nine great-grandchildren, Ben, Eisley, Alex, Lola Mae, Kody, Jason, Kaleb, Emma and Lillian; and two sisters, Margie Bishop of Texas and Estelle McKinney of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Robin Jones; her parents, Ken and Mary Tuggle Henley; two sisters, Lola Mae McKinney and Roxie Hammons; and three brothers, Louis, Chester and Kendrix Henley.
