Charles D. Ross, 64, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020, at NHC of Desloge.
He was born October 2, 1955, in Parma, Missouri, to Charles F. and Thelma “Louise” Parsons Ross.
Charles was a 1974 graduate of Parma High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from November 21, 1980 to August 13, 1984, with a speciality in administration. In 1986, he received a B.S. in Business Administration from Southeast Missouri State University. Thereafter, he again served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from October 14, 1986 to June 21, 1998. During this time, his primary specialty was hospital / clinic administration. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He later earned a B.S. in Physical Education from Southeast Missouri State University.
His private employment included Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana, St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, and John L. Sauer DDS, the Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau, and Facility Management at Southeast Missouri State University, all in Cape Girardeau.
As he was able, he enjoyed attending First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and Cape Bible Chapel.
Loving survivors include three children, Jessica Grypp (fiance, Eric White) and her son Jonathan Grypp of Mascoutah, Illinois, William Meyer of Brazil, Indiana, and Alexandria Meyer (fiance John Sissom) of Charleston, Illinois; seven siblings, Joyce (Hershel) Moyers of Cape Girardeau, Phyllis Watkins of Sikeston, Terry (Tammy) Ross of San Antonio, Texas, Cindy (David) Pountney of Williamsburg, Missouri, Evelyn Wilbanks and Larry Foster, both of Brighton, Tennessee, and Jay Foster of New Orleans, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Charles Ross, Jr., Clyde Foster, Jr., and Jerry Foster.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2020, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Military Rites will be observed at 2:30 p.m.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Veterans Home Foundation in Cape Girardeau.
