Charles E. “Earl” Friedrich, 92, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the Monticello House in Jackson.
He was born May 3, 1926, in Advance, Missouri, to Charley and Agnes Barker Friedrich. He and Maxine Blumenberg were married June 3, 1956, at Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville.
Earl was a corporal, serving honorably in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War, from August 28, 1951 to September 1, 1953.
He was a lifelong carpenter, working many years for Howard Bretz, retiring in 2002. He was a longtime member of Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville, where he was active in the men’s club and taught Sunday School. He was an avid gardener, and served as a leader in the former Poplar Ridge 4-H Club. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and especially enjoyed telling stories to them.
Loving survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maxine Friedrich of Jackson; two children, Emily (Kevin) Mandry of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Allen (Cindy) Friedrich of Jackson; six grandchildren: Jonathan Mandry; Gabriel (Samantha) Mandry and son David; and Peter Mandry, all of Colorado Springs, Joshua Friedrich and fiancee Kelsey Strong; Caleb Friedrich; and Noel Friedrich, all of Jackson; a brother, Vincent (Deanna) Friedrich of Oak Ridge; two brothers-in-law, Eugene (the late Vivian) Schneider, and Willard (Pauline and the late Clara) Schneider, both of Jackson; and a sister-in-law, Linda (the late Elvin) Blumenberg of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Glen (Velma) Friedrich, Raymond Friedrich and Harl (Betty) Friedrich; and two sisters, Vivian Schneider and Clara Schneider.
Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, October 7, 2018, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. to service time, Monday, October 8, 2018, at Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville.
The funeral is at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2018, at Zion Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joel Kidwell officiating. Committal and graveside military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Zion Methodist Church or Cemetery.
