Chester L. Shockley, 94, of Dexter, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at his son’s home in Gordonville, Missouri.
He was born April 11, 1926, in Cuba, Missouri, son of Earl and Nellie Schafferkoetter Shockley. He and Wilma Kennedy were married in 1966: she survives.
Chester was a graduate of Cuba High School in Cuba, Missouri. He was a vet eran of WWII having entered the United States Navy in 1943 and honorably discharged in 1946. Chester worked with his father in the timber business up into the 1960’s. He then started his own business as an exporter of wood veneers. Chester stayed busy working right up until his declining health forced him to retire.
Loving survivors include his wife Wilma of 54 years; six children, Barbara (Ronald) Reggero, Dennis (Susan) Shockley, Michael (Karen) Vermillion, Joey (Vivian) Vermillion, Gary (Kimberly) Shockley and Robin (Felinda) Vermillion; two daughter-in-laws, Patricia (the late Richard) Vermillion and Valerie (the late Larry) Vermillion.
Also surviving are a sister Imogene Wynn; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings and two children.
There will be no services.
Arrangements were accorded by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
