Dena Kamp Obituary

Dena Bertha nee Siebert Kamp, age 93, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau, where she received loving care the past 3 years. By God's grace, Dena entered the face-to-face presence of the Holy Triune God and all His saints. With them, she awaits the resurrection of the body, as Job proclaimed, "For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another." (Job 19: 25 - 27)

She was born October 30, 1927, at home in Cape Girardeau, to Albert Siebert and Ida nee Lange. When she was about a week old, the family moved to the Siebert family farm near Tilsit, Missouri.

Dena is adopted into the family of the Triune God by Holy Baptism on November 27, 1927, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cape Girardeau. She is confirmed in the Christian faith in 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Tilsit. Her confirmation verse is John 15:5.

Dena and Albert Wm. Kamp, Jr., were joined in marriage on April 3, 1948, at her family home in Cape Girardeau, with the pastor of Trinity Lutheran, Cape, officiating. They moved to the Kamp family farm near Burfordville and lived there until failing health took them to nursing care facilities. They were members of Immanuel Lutheran, Tilsit, for many years before becoming members at St Paul Lutheran, Jackson. When Albert worked at Co-op he was often awarded trips for meeting sales goals. Dena enjoyed those trips immensely, especially Mexico City and Hawaii.

Surviving are three children, Gary (Gail) Kamp of Burfordville, Joyce (Alan) Wollenburg of Sikeston, and Mark (Jana) Kamp of Las Vegas, Nevada. Additionally, she is survived by six grandchildren, Chris Kamp of Burfordville; Cassie Kamp of Austin, Texas; Stephanie (Tom) Arapidis of Astoria, New York; John Wollenburg of Sikeston, Missouri; Alexis Boatfield of Cleveland, Ohio; and Avery Clarke of Las Vegas. Also surviving is one sister, Pearl Keller of Cape Girardeau, one sister-in-law, Darlene Kamp of Jackson, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years; her parents, and five siblings Ruth Volkerding, Eugenie Wessel, Ruby Siebert, Raymond Siebert, and William Siebert.

Since Dena's father preceded her in death before she was 10 years old and her mother was ill, Dena learned to work hard at an early age. Prior to marriage, she worked briefly at Superior Electric. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother where she yearly had a big garden, canning and freezing many vegetables and fruits. She kept lovely flower beds and baked coffee cakes, cookies, bread and homemade butter and jams for treats for her family. In later years, she said if she had a dollar for every cookie she made, she could live very well. She impressed her children and grandchildren by killing spiders with her bare hand.

Dena served her Lord by teaching Sunday School and being involved in the Ladies Aid, Altar Guild, and choir. She served as Room Mother for her children's school and baked and decorated many birthday cakes from scratch. She sewed many beautiful clothes for her family and herself and made creative costumes for her children, Barbie doll clothes, and Barbie houses and furniture. She also served many years as a poll worker in Burfordville and volunteered many years at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Dena is loved by many for her kindnesses, caring for others, and her delightful sense of humor and jokes. She enjoyed playing card and board games with family and friends and sled ridding with her children and grandchildren. Together with Albert, their greatest legacy was teaching their children about the love of Jesus with God's word and by example.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 9, 2021, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 10 a.m. to service time, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
