Dewey Rayford Boyd, 95, of Sikeston, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Dewey was born October 13, 1927, in Avon, MO, son of the late Thomas A. and Etta Johnson Boyd. He and Eleanor Jackson Short were married in 1995. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2022.
He was a graduate of Patton High School and attended college at Washington University in St. Louis. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Dewey worked in insurance as an adjustor for Volkswagen Credit Corp. In 1964 he purchased the Courtesy Ford Dealership in Charleston, Missouri. He owned and operated the dealership for 45 years, retiring in 2009. He was a businessman at heart and enjoyed being involved in various entrepreneurial ventures thru the years, including owning farm land in New Madrid county and Mississippi county.
Loving survivors include seven nieces and nephews, Jerry (Pamela) Boyd of Patton, Janet (Chuck) Heady Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Jim (Robin) Boyd of Sedgewickville, John (Cathy) Boyd of Jackson, Mary (Ken) Friese of Friedheim, Tina Shabel of Herman, Mo, and Sandy (Doug) Kasten of Jackson; a step-daughter, Sandra (Steve) Moore; two step-grandchildren, Clayton (Sarah) Carbaugh and Jason (Nicole) Carbaugh; four great step-grandchildren, Sophie and Stella Carbaugh and Shelby and Tyler Carbaugh; numerous great nieces and nephews, and many great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Jack Boyd; a nephew, Stewart Boyd; and an infant sister.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 11 AM- 1 PM at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 1 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
