Donald “Don” Darnell, 91, of Jackson passed away Monday December 20, 2021, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Don was born January 19, 1930, to Stella Boucher in Bush, Illinois.
He and Goldie M. Green were married November 22, 1956, at New Salem Methodist Church in Daisy, Missouri. She passed away February 13, 2018, after 61 years of marriage.
Don honorably served two times in the U.S. Army: December 30, 1947, to December 29, 1949, and from December 4, 1952, to December 3, 1954, during the Korean War.
Don worked for Western Electric for 37 years until retirement.
He was a member of the New McKendree United Methodist Church, the Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441, and the American Legion Post 158 and its honor guard, all in Jackson.
Don is survived by a daughter, Janette (Ron) Hobeck of Daisy; two grandsons, Kyle Hobeck and Darrin Hobeck (Crystal Edwards) both of Daisy; a granddaughter, Stacy Beckerman (Zach Robinson) of Daisy; two great-grandsons, Konnor Hobeck and Hayden Robinson, both of Daisy; and a great-granddaughter, Ally Beckerman of Daisy; and three siblings, David Boucher of Lyons, Indianna and Bill Boucher of Minok, Illinois, and a sister, Erma Burke of Murphysboro.
In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by his son, Glenn Darnell (12/14/2021).
Don and Glenn’s arrangements are as follows: Visitation on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, from 10 a.m. to service time, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The Rev. Andrew Green will conduct the joint funeral ceremony at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in the Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Hobeck, Darrin Hobeck, Konnor Hobeck, Zach Robinson, Leonard Weber, and Rick Green.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Francis Hospice or New Salem Methodist Cemetery Fund.
