Doris V. Birk, 92, of Jackson, went to her eternal home with Christ, Thursday, February 27, 2020. She resided with a daughter in Raleigh, North Carolina the past four years.
She was born December 9, 1927, in Jackson, to Alvin A. and Clara M. Deimund Kaminskey. She attended the former Sandy Ridge Elementary School; St. Paul Lutheran School; and was a 1945 graduate of Jackson High School.
Doris married Norman W. Birk on April 15, 1945, at the parsonage of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. They were active members of the church. Doris formerly served as president of the Missionary League and Ladies Aid. In 1962, they transferred their membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Doris was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an excellent seamstress, making handstitched quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. Her other work included serving as a poll judge and driving cars for several local dealerships. In the mid-1980’s, Norman’s declining health perpetuated the sale of the family farm south of Jackson, and the Birks moved to Jackson.
Doris loved dancing with Norman and traveling to visit their children. They visited all the lower 48 states and their capitols, the Canadian Provinces of Nova Scotia, traveled twice to Europe and once to the Holy Land. They had been married 70 years when Norman passed away May 6, 2015.
Loving survivors include four children, Patricia (the late Irven) Graham of San Antonio, Texas, Janet Birk (Arjan Hossein Jaminia) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Dennis (Chris) Birk of De Forest, Wisconsin, Roger (Tammy) Birk of Jackson; seven grandchildren: Jeffray (Patti) Graham and son Robert; Lauren Birk; Samuel (Terri) Birk and children Katherine, Daniel, Aaron, Ian, and Naomi; Michael (Amy) Birk and children Kamden and Jasmine; Pamela Birk and son Aiden; David Birk; Jesse Birk; three sisters-in-law, Shirley (the late Tom) Kaminskey of Jackson, Shirley (the late Truman) Birk of Jackson, and Frances (the late James) Cobble of Arnold, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Tom Kaminskey.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time, Monday, March 2, 2020, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2020, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Boettcher officiating.
