Dorris Mason, 94, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
She was born February 25, 1928, in Cape Girardeau to Arthur C. and Hattie B. Harper Vogelsang. She and Dennis G. “Gene” Mason were married July 31, 1948, in Arkansas. They had been married 69 years when Gene passed away October 17, 2017.
Dorris worked as a secretary at the shoe factory in Cape Girardeau. After the children started school, Dorris was a teacher’s aide in the Cape Girardeau Public School System, a secretary to the principal at Cape Central High School, then secretary/assistant to the superintendent of schools at the Board of Education Office, retiring in 1990.
She and Gene were longtime members of the Alamanders Square Dance Club, and during the summers, they enjoyed camping and boating with family and friends. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling in their RV and spending winters in southern Texas.
Loving survivors include three children, Donna (the late Wayne) Deress of Orland Park, Illinois, Connie (Stan) Mosier of Kansas City, and Dennis G. “Denny” (Denise) Mason, Jr., of Kansas City; five grandchildren, Dawn Holloway, Dana Holloway, John Mosier (fiancé Megan Santellan), Kaci (Tyler) Curtis, Christopher (Rachel) Mason; and five great-grandsons, Gabe, Dante, Alex, Jacob, and Finn; a great-granddaughter, Freya; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and three siblings, A. C. and C. H. Vogelsang, and June Ellis.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, June 22, 2022, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2022, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The Rev. Loren Boettcher will conduct the funeral service at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in New Lorimier Cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
