CHAFFEE, Mo.

Garry Dean Smith, 85, of Chaffee passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 13, 1936, in Jackson, son of George H. and Nellie M. Schreiner Smith.

He and Sharon Elizabeth Schwartz were married June 22, 1957. She passed away Dec. 10, 1986. He and Joyce Sullinger were married Nov. 27, 1993. She survives.

Garry worked at Wille's Bakery. Later, he worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator for many years for Loos and Hoffmeister, from which he retired. Garry was a faithful member of Greater Vision Pentecostal Church in Chaffee.

Loving survivors include his wife of 28 years; a daughter, Cindy (Albert) Sadler of Jackson; two sisters, Laura Jo Smith and Kim Martin, both of Jackson; a brother, Mark Smith of St. Charles, Missouri; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion and best friend, his dog, Lady.

Also surviving are four stepchildren, Kevin (Brenda) Miller of Chaffee; Sheila (Gary) Gilmer of Devine, Texas; Connie (Jim) Smith of Moro, Illinois; and Darlene (Gary) Kelley of Delta; several step grandchildren and great-step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 29 years; two sons, Robert Smith and Jeffrey Smith; two grandsons, Aaron Sadler and B. J. Smith; and four brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Revs. Richard Mahan and Albert Sadler officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
