Harry Dale Allen, 90, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born January 16, 1933, in Oriole, Missouri, to Burley and Frankie Myer Allen. He and Marie Catherine Glastetter were married April 4, 1964.
Harry was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, serving honorably during the Korean War, from April 2, 1953 to April 1, 1955.
Harry's career was especially interesting. After his military service, he was employed by a sawmill near Oriole where he was able to work alongside his father and uncle; Harris and Friedrich Garage in Jackson; as a commercial fisherman on the Mississippi River; Superior Electric Company; and 30 years at Atlas Plastics in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1998. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, previously serving as an usher. His other memberships included the VFW and the Honkers Boat Club, both in Cape Girardeau. Whenever he had the chance, Harry especially enjoyed frying fish for his large family, woodworking, mechanic and fabrication work.
Loving survivors include his wife Marie of 59 years; four children, Carla (Tom) Young of Cape Girardeau, Barbara (Kirk) Lorenz of Jackson, John (Deena) Allen of Jackson, and Dale (Elizabeth) Allen of Bumpass, Virginia; a brother, Kenny (Yvonne) Allen of Virden, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Lance (Emily) Young, Logan (Chris) McCoy, Casey (Curtis) Schilling, Kody Lorenz, Tyler (Lexy) Allen, Taylor Allen, Ryan Allen and Brandan Allen; seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Mitchell, and Graham Young, Callie Schilling, Knox, Iyla, and Ivy Allen: and several nieces and nephews. Harry was anticipating the birth of another great-grandson soon.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Violet Voshage, and two brothers-in-law, Elmer and Raymond Glastetter.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday, June 23, 2023, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau and after 10 am Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Funeral service will be at 11 am Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Douglas Breite officiating.
Interment and military honors will follow in Fairmont Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
