Homer Raymond Dickmann

Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Homer R. Dickmann, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 17, 1928, in Menfro, Missouri, the son of the late Walter and Wilma Bergmann Dickmann. He and Wanda Tucker were married on Aug. 31, 1957, in Hernando, Mississippi.

Homer and Wanda moved to Cape Girardeau, and Homer went to work for the then Missouri Utilities, now Ameren Missouri, where he worked as an operator/driver until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, and a member of American Legion Post 63. 4

Homer was very involved in youth baseball from city league up to American Legion. He served as the State Commissioner of American Legion Baseball for many years. He was inducted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1996 and was named Distinguished Legionnaire in Missouri in 2004. Homer would remark, “If a 16-year-old boy with a driver’s license and girlfriend is out here in the heat of the summer playing baseball, then he is a kid that loves the game.”

Homer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wanda Dickmann; two sons, Kevin Dickmann and Brian (Lisa) Dickmann, both of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Alex and Taylor Dickmann of Austin, Texas, and a brother, Dale Dickmann of St. Louis, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Iva LaRose and Fern Cossey.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Inurnment will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Columbarium in Bloomfield, Missouri, on Friday at 2 p.m., with full military honors.
