Jason Smith, 30, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born February 8, 1989, in Cape Girardeau, to Mary Smith and Tracy Cotner.
Jason was a 2007 graduate of Jackson High School. He was currently working as a sub-contractor in local construction
Loving survivors include two children, Natalie Shay Smith and Jason Andrew Smith, Jr. and their mother, Ashley Burton; his mother, Mary Bass of Jackson; his father, Tracy Cotner of Advance; significant other, Timber Kimbel of Jackson; his “second mother”, Manetta “Susie” Smith of Cape Girardeau (also his aunt); three siblings, Jesse Kelsey of Las Cruses, New Mexico, Nichole Smith of Aquilla, Missouri, and Jarad Bass of Jackson; grandfather, James L. (Pat) Smith of Las Cruses; two uncles, Keith Smith of Cape Girardeau and David (Sandy) Smith of Jackson; an aunt, Mimi Smith of Cape Girardeau; several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Toby Bass; and grandmother, Peggy Sue (Craft) Smith.
The family is hosting an informal memorial gathering from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Hobbs Chapel Activity Center in Cape Girardeau. Food will be provided.
