John Thomas “Tom” Brice, age 83 of Jackson passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the Villas of Jackson.
He was born July 20, 1937 at the old St. Francis Hospital on Good Hope Street in Cape Girardeau, the son of Ira F. and Angela Sciortino Brice.
He and Maxine Elizabeth Brice were married December 22, 1972 on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University at the Newman Center. Maxine passed away February 17, 2015.
Tom had graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic Grade School. He then went to High School and College at Kenrick Catholic Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. He studied Philosophy and Theology. Following Seminary he taught school in the St. Louis area and served in the United States Army Reserve from February 14, 1963 thru February 13, 1969. He later relocated to Jackson around 1970.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Bishop Timon #6405 Knights of Columbus in Jackson.Tom worked for the Southeast Missourian and Blair Industries as a graphic artist and retired due to failing health. Tom and Maxine were very generous people. They would open their homes to many over the years; especially family, friends, and exchange students who had no place to go for the holidays. Tom enjoyed painting and sketching. He also had a love and interest of children.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Carol Brice of Jackson; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Karen Lloyd of Cape Girardeau; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his loving wife Maxine of more than 42 years, he was preceded in death his parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson with Father Randy Tochtrop. A private interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials are suggested to be made in Tom’s memory to “Birthright”, 2633 Hopper Rd., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
