John Henry Siemer, age 81 of Jackson, passed away Tuesday October 6, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 27, 1939 in Vrees, Germany the second youngest of six children of Johann and Maria Baker Siemer.
John immigrated to America in 1960. He initially settled in St. Louis, MO to work as a butcher for IGA. It was there that he met Irmgard Maria Schonlau who had also immigrated to America from Germany. They married November 11, 1961 and in February 1963 John enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 82nnd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After being honorably discharged on Feb 6, 1965 he and Irmgard returned to St. Louis. In 1971 John became a citizen of the United States and moved to Jackson as he purchased the C.H. Sander Hardware Co., known today as Siemer’s Appliances and Service.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include a son Anthony (Joyce) Siemer of Friedheim; two daughters, Dr. Deanna Siemer and her husband Kevin Welker and Andrea (Chris) Marchi all of Jackson; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irmgard of 51 years and his parents.
A Funeral mass will be held at 10 am Friday, October 9, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Randy Tochtrap officiating.
A private interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with Military Honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cape Girardeau.
