Larry Bollinger Obituary

Larry N. Bollinger, 85, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born in Cape Girardeau County on July 15, 1938, to Robert and Cora Mae Mayfield Bollinger, Larry was one of six children.  He and Jeanette Schuette were married July 3, 1955, at the parsonage of First Baptist Church in Jackson.  They had been married 67 years when Jeanette passed away September 15, 2022.

Larry was a 1956 graduate of Jackson High School.  He was a four-year football letterman at JHS and was still a die-hard “Jackson Indian Fan”, continuing to listen to Jackson sports when unable to attend games.   After retirement, he was the “official burger griller” at the JHS Girls Softball tournaments.

At the age of 16, Larry began working at the A & P Store in uptown Jackson.  His other employment included the Sealtest Dairy in Jackson; Atlas Plastics, Bunny Bread, Jerry Schwab’s Capetown RV Sales and carwash operation in Cape Girardeau; Bollinger and Schuette Farms, and Ferrell Gas Co. in Benton, retiring as a manager in the late 1990’s.

Larry was a founding member of Crossroads Fellowship Church which was established in 2003.  He and Jeanette often helped prepare the newsletter for mailing and served on the Compassion Team (sending cards to people).

Larry’s love of God, family, friends, and community was exemplified by his kindness and generosity.  He faithfully watched his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports and show cattle, and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan.

Loving survivors include two children, Brent (Mary Schoenebeck) Bollinger and Becky (Dave) Riney of Jackson; three grandchildren, Amanda (Trent) Forester and children Braylen and Hayden Forester of Jackson; Matt (Erika Cook) Bollinger and children, Harlow Cook and Riley Bollinger of Jackson; Michael (Olivia Litwicki) Riney Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Helen (late Jerry) Bollinger of Onondaga, Michigan and Ruth Ann (late Darrell) Schuette of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife; parents; Jeanette’s parents, Ernest and Minnie Schuette; five siblings and their spouses:  Denzel (Mary) Bollinger; Lenzel (Charlene) Bollinger; Bobby (Mina) Bollinger; Rosalie (Troy) Proffer; Jerry Bollinger; and a brother-in-law, Darrell Schuette.

A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to service time, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.  The Rev. Brian Anderson and Pastor Matthew Cromer will conduct a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the funeral home.  The family will privately honor Larry with a private graveside service.
