Lillian Schreiner Obituary

Lillian A. Schreiner, 83, of Old Appleton, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.  The family extends sincere appreciation to the staff of the Lutheran Home for the attentive care Lillian received during her residency there.

She was born December 18, 1938, in New Wells, Missouri, to Hugo and Marie Boren Scholl.  She and Ray Schreiner were married September 1, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.  Three children were born to their union.

Lillian was baptized on January 8, 1939, and confirmed on March 29, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.  She was a graduate of the church’s grade school and was a 1957 graduate of Jackson High School.

Lillian was a proud farm wife and mother.  She ensured lunch was prepped and ready for Ray and his helpers before she left for work at the bank each morning.  Upon retirement, she volunteered at Southeast Hospital and participated in the reading program at Jackson Elementary School.

Lillian was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells until her marriage to Ray when she became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown. She and Ray were both very active members of their church, from supporting the school through Parent Teacher League, to making many banners for the church, to being a very active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and serving on their Altenburg Zone board.

Lillian had a strong faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She shared that faith through her words and actions.  She was incredibly proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them.  Lillian enjoyed painting, tending her garden, mowing grass, and watching the bald eagles nest and hatch eggs.  Lillian had many friends whom she cherished dearly.  Her positive attitude and sense of humor was sure to bring a smile to your face.

Loving survivors include two children, Deborah (Bruce) Schnurbusch of New Wells, Thomas (Linda) Schreiner of Oak Ridge; daughter-in-law, Lynn (the late Douglas) Schreiner of Jackson; eight grandchildren: Jared (Renea) Schnurbusch and their children Jonah and Jessa of New Wells; Jenny (Chris) Macke and their children Sydney and Cole of Cape Girardeau; Jacob (Allyson) Schnurbusch and son Silas of Cape Girardeau; Brent (Kelly) Schreiner and children Rylie, Zachary, and Camdyn of Leopold; Deanna Schreiner (fiance Keith Costello) and children Addyson, Landon, Grant and Liam of Manchester; Mandie (Brent) Presser and daughter Joanie of Jackson; Andrea (Lynn) Hayth of Casper, Wyoming; and Alison Schreiner of Denver, Colorado.  She is also survived by brothers-in-law, Ken Weinhold and Harlan Siebert; and a sister-in-law Marlene Scholl.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Ray Schreiner, a son Douglas Schreiner, great-grandson, Tate Werner; her parents; two infant brothers; her sisters, Evelyn Weinhold and Gladys (Melvin) Hoffman; a brother Ray Scholl; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Siebert and Gladys (Earl) Siebert.

Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown, Missouri.

The funeral is at 11 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2022, at the church, with the Rev. Paul Winningham officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
