Mary Mouser Obituary

Mary Evelyn Mouser, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Southeast Hospital, with her loving children at her bedside.

She was born May 29, 1934 in White Hall, Illinois, the daughter of Harry D. and Marie Campbell Steelman. She married Louis Zarantonello; he preceded her in death in 1966. Mary married Doyle Mouser Nov. 3, 1984.

She was a graduate of Bunker Hill, Illinois High School. She had grown up in Dorsey, Illinois moving to Cape Girardeau in 1968. Mary worked at the Townhouse Motel in Cape Girardeau, Kohlfeld Distributing and Cam Electric in Jackson, retiring from Russman Bus Company.

Mary was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Cape Rock Chapter #60 for more than 25 years. She held many offices in OES including Worthy Matron, District Deputy Grand Matron in 1992, and Grand Representative of Maryland in Missouri in 2011. She volunteered many hours at the Missouri Veterans Home and Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Mary will be remembered for her generosity, compassion, a servant’s heart, her smile, and most certainly her laugh.  In her later years, she was known for her cooking and baking skills and that her grandsons loved her pies.

She also will be remembered for some of her favorite sayings, “The more the merrier,” “If there isn’t enough for everybody, then nobody gets any,” and “The guest always gets the bigger piece”.  

Mary was a member of the Mount Auburn Christian Church in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include her husband, Doyle, of 34 years; four sons, Mike (Kim) Zarantonello of Alton, Illinois, Louis “Butch” (Valorie) Zarantonello of Chico, Texas, Mark (Julie) Zarantonello of Kansas City, Missouri, and Randy (Terri) Mouser of Jackson; two daughters, Debbie Huckabee and Teresa (Gary) Anderson both of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren,  Kelly (Kenny) Gardner, Jessica (Alan) Stone, Anthony “Tony” Zarantonello, Harlie Anderson, Krista (Tyler) Birk, Ryan (Sarah) Mouser, Shawna (Kevin) King, Greg (Dani) Anderson, Rachael (Travis) Ontiveros, Molly (Kerry) Ingram, Venus (Kurt) Johnson, Keith, Anthony, and Louis C. (Yvonne) Zarantonello, and Rebecca (David) Demars.

Also surviving are great grandchildren, Eann and Owen Gardner, Caleb, Levi, Eden, and Noelle Stone, Estelle Anderson, Paisley and Hudson Birk, Logan Mouser, Alex and Logan King, Vanessa (Brian) Owens, Dorian, Lance, Chaze, Sean, Kieran, Brycen and Ellie Anderson, Madison Lynch, Nathaniel, Seth and Hawkins Ingram, Justin, Teresa, Infiniti, Douglas and Dewayne Zarantonello.

She also leaves behind a brother, Bill Steelman of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Nancy Burgoyne of Edwardsville, Illinois, Linda Hermsmeyer of St. Louis, and Marie “Missy” (Jimmy) Gilloette of San Antonio; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Donnie Musgraves, and a brother, Eddie Steelman.

Visitation will be from 2 -6 p.m. Sunday, May 19,, 2019, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with an Order of Eastern Star service at 5:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Monday, May 20, 2019 at the funeral home with Rev. Casey Elmore and Rev. Naamon Eaker officiating.

Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Mount Auburn Christian Church or to the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis.
