Michael John Eftink, 81, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, May 17, 2021, at the Lutheran Home. He was born April 8, 1940, in Portageville, Missouri, on Lovers Lane, to Henry and Delpha LaFont Eftink. Son number two in a family of seven boys and one girl.
Mike was a graduate of Cape Catholic High School class of 1958. A few years after high school, he began his career as an over-the-road truck driver, criss-crossing the country many times, making lifelong friends wherever he went. He retired in 2002 and traded in his Freightliner for a camper. He, his wife, Jean, and their poodle, Phoebe, continued to travel, but this time strictly for fun. They ended up in South Texas, escaping many of the cold Midwest winters. It was there that he discovered his love for woodworking. He acquired lots of tools over the years and built many beautiful items for family and friends. Mike was also an avid card player and could be found at most family gatherings sitting at a table, with his brothers, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews playing “Eftink Pitch”. He loved his big family and took great pride and joy in his kids, grandchildren and, most recently, his great-granddaughter.
His loving survivors include his wife of 43 years, Jean Ann Sebastian Eftink of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Susie (Roy) Brant of Kelso, Missouri, Liz (Terry) Hillier of Cape Girardeau; son, Alan (Belle) Eftink of Southaven, Mississippi; and grandchildren, Jenny Brant of St Charles, Missouri; Jamie (Andy) Stephens of Kelso; Clayton (Katrina) Hillier of Jackson; Jacob, Joshua and Kathryn Eftink of Southaven. He also has four surviving brothers, Larry (Fran) Eftink of Springfield, Missouri; David(Doris) Eftink of Oran, Missouri; Louis(Deb) Eftink of Sedgwick, Kansas, and Kenny(Becky) Eftink of Bloomfield, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tom Eftink and Msgr. Ed Eftink; his sister Barbara Jarvis; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Eftink.
He will be missed by his many friends and family.
There will be no service per Mike’s request.
