Nelda Starzinger, 95, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 4, 1927, in Altenburg, to Arthur and Erna Engert Pilz.
Nelda attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School in Altenburg. Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg was the place of her baptism, confirmation, and also her marriage. On May 5, 1946, she married Dillman R. Starzinger of Pocahontas.
After marriage, the couple farmed and resided near Pocahontas. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, where Nelda taught Sunday School and a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Wonder Workers Extension Club, and she especially enjoyed gardening, canning, and quilting.
Nelda worked 17 years at Pocahontas Meat and 11 years at Schapers IGA in Jackson. In 1988, she and Dillman moved to Jackson.
Loving survivors include a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Starzinger (Ken Callis) of Cape Girardeau; two grandsons, Jon (Kristen) Starzinger of West Fork, Arkansas, and Eric Starzinger of St. Louis; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Pilz of Frohna.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dillman; their son, Dennis Starzinger; her parents, four siblings, Olga (Ben) Hecht, Lorna (George) Gerler, Lorene (Buddy) Wachter, Clarence Pilz; and an infant brother, Edgar Pilz.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. The Rev. Virgil Kelm will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
